In 2011, the top five database vendors – Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, and Teradata – owned 91% of DBMS revenue. By 2016, that number was down to 86.9%. Although that doesn’t seem like a precipitous drop, the database market is worth roughly $34 billion.
